Thank you for considering the Sports Medicine Fellowship at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. As residency and fellowship faculty, we are committed to fostering your personal and professional growth in a supportive, collegial environment. We encourage you to become involved with Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital to positively influence the health of patients and the community. We are considerate of the rights of our Fellows, as clearly outlined in the Residents' Bill of Rights.
Phoebe Putney offers the first ACGME fully accredited primary care sports medicine fellowship in Georgia. This fellowship is open to graduates of internal medicine, pediatrics, emergency medicine and family medicine programs. Annually, Phoebe grants one 12-month fellowship on a competitive basis. The basic educational method and goals of the fellowship program involve Fellows and faculty working side-by-side in all aspects of patient care. The Fellows spend 70 to 80 percent of their time direct patient care in the clinic, operating rooms, rehabilitation and follow-up. Additionally, Fellows rotate periodically through the service of several faculty members to gain maximum exposure to different philosophies and procedures.
Fellows join our staff in caring for college and high school athletic teams on a regular basis, including opportunities to work several University of Georgia athletic events. They also participate in pre-participation physicals for area high school students and have the opportunity to provide medical coverage for the Atlanta Marathon and the Peachtree Road Race.
The Sports Medicine Fellowship Program is located in an award-winning facility at Phoebe Northwest. Also located here is the Southwest Georgia Family Medicine Program, which continuously addresses the shortage of health care professionals in the region. Both programs seek to blend the primary care orientation of a community hospital with the academic and educational resources of a world-class medical facility. Established in 1993, our residency program offers a rich opportunity for you to develop as a strong clinician capable of delivering high-quality primary care in any setting. Our world-class facilities make Phoebe a desirable location for residents to work and receive quality training. Likewise, our benefits package for the Sports Medicine Fellowship is competitive with those of similar programs.
Working with you to become a capable and versatile sports medicine physician is our top priority. The Sports Medicine Fellowship Program at Phoebe Putney is dedicated to training sports medicine physicians prepared to provide comprehensive, continuous and personal health care to patients of all ages. Fellowship training requires balance that is critical in managing the health care dilemmas of today. Multiple objectives are defined to ensure a well-rounded physician: the welfare of patients, employee well being, building a sense of community and an awareness of the fiscal health of the organization. The Sports Medicine Fellowship strives to interconnect and maximize these four objectives.
