Family Medicine Chief Residents’ Statement:

Thank you for your interest in our program!  We are quite proud of our residency program and we think that you will be amazed if you visit Southwest Georgia Family Medicine Residency Program.  As you can see by our website, we are an unopposed Family Medicine program.  Being unopposed allows us to have direct access to specialists; we never have to go through other residents or fellows.  Our hospital, Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, prides itself in the quality of the residents that are trained here, and it shows in the interactions and support from the entire medical staff.  The hospital administration is very supportive of our program, and most of the hospital administrators (even the CEO!) know the residents on a first-name basis.  Our faculty is an excellent group as well.  If you are looking for a setting where opportunity is given to learn in a low-stress environment, look no further!

Outside of the hospital, the residents are a close-knit group.  There are frequent social activities that all residents (and their families) are invited to attend.  One resident is our self-proclaimed director of social activities and sends out frequent emails alerting us to drug-rep dinners, music trivia, talent shows, baby showers,  laser tag, and bowling, just to name a few.

Again, we are quite proud of our program here in Southwest Georgia.  Take a long look at our program, come for a visit, and we think you’ll agree with us!
