The
Residency Program is fully accredited by the Accreditation
Council for Graduate Medical Education. The program holds formal
affiliations with the Medical College of Georgia and Mercer University.
The
Southwest Georgia Family Medicine Residency Program is the only
such program in Georgia with a primary mission to train family physicians
to practice in rural Southwest Georgia. As the number of doctors
increases in our region, the quality of life and health status improves
dramatically in our community. The need for medical services in
this rural region is great. The region has high incidences of cancer,
heart attack, stroke and other diseases, and the need for medical
and outreach services is tremendous.
